OLYMPIC COUNCIL.
1 A SATURDAY NIGHT MEETING. A meeting of the Olympic Council for New Zealand was held on Saturday night Mr. A. Jlarryatt 1 presided and there iv«re also present: Messrs. B. E. Keesin?, 0. S. Hill. E. E. Hammond. F. P. Wilson, 1\ Wilton, and B. Guise (secretary). Correspondence wns dealt with in connection with (he financing of the New Zealand repre.eututivcs to the Olympic Games at Stockholm. It was reported that the sum of .£llO had recently Ijeen forwarded to Australia making a total of .E2SG on account, of Tlill and Champion. Nothing more will be forwarded until a statement nl' accounts is received from tlio Australian Council. . A letter was received from the New Zealand Swimming Association in reference to Champion's expenses to tl\e Olympic Games. The letter stated that it wan decidsd to forward ;£25 (making a total of £75) and to ask the Council to accept this as a final payment. It was pointed out- that the sum of (2100 was expected from the New Zca-. land Swimming Association on account; of Champiort's expenses, an. additional £50 having been subscribed in Auckland. On the motion of Mr. Hill it was decided to take no .steps to secure the balance, from the Swimming Association until the statement of accounts was received from. the Australian Council. man moved Hie following motion, of -which notice had been given: "Tliut with a view to establishing a permanent New Zealand Olympic fund, this Council communicate with the governing bodies of all sports in- ■ teresfed, reeotnmending a nominal annual subscription of (say) (id. per club member, and suggests that .such sum •could bo collected as a registration fee or othenviso as may be deemed desirable." The motion was seconded by Mr. Wilton and discussed by all those present. The opinion was generally expressed that, if those taking part in sports wero not prepared to find funds for the Council, neither the Government nor tho people should bo approached. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr. C 4. S. Hill moved: 'That the representative for Austra-- • ha and New Zealand on the International Olympic Council be renuested on behalf of New Zealand to" make application forthwith to the International Olympic Committee for NewZealand to be recognised as a separate, nation in future Olympic Games." Mr. Wilson seconded the motion, but after discussion it was decided to defer the question until a fuller meeting.
