CLEM HILL ON THE SITUATION. ' I '

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Adelaide, August 24.

Clem Hill, in an interview after tlie result of .the Test match was received, said that on paper England was far tlio strongest, and to have been beaten must have had the worst of the wicket. No doubt if the best available Australian team had been'sent it would have had a really'good chance. Tho English team was certainly no better than ,the one that was last here. The Australians were too weak in batting, and depended throughout on four or iivo batsmen. As tho wickets were dead Against Foster's fast bowling, ho had not Leen half as dangerous as ho would have been in a line summer.

MORE ABANDONED MATCHES. I London, August 23. Stumps were drawn' in the' match South Africa v. Lancashire at noon to-day, owing to the pitch, being flooded. Lancashire match has been abandoned, thirty hours rain having fallen. Rain stopped all cricket to-day. The "Pall Mall Gazette" says the attendance of matches is a sufficient comment on latter-day nonsense that criokot is losing in popularity. London, August 24.
