[By Glkscoe.] Owners and trainers should note that nominations for the Wauganui and Dannevirke meetings close to-night. • Acceptances for the Morton meeting, which takes place on Wednesday, September 1, aro duo to-morrow night. Tho Multiform marc Nightfall,- who was a good pertornier in this country, cut failed to win a race when sold to go to England, changed hands in tho latter country last month. .She was sold as in foal b Flotsam. So far Parliament has not had an opportunity of discussing Mr. G. Hunter's Racing Bill, and there is little likelihood of it coming on this week. This, however, does not mean that it is to Ire shelved. As to how it will fare, opinions are divided, but the more optimistic among sporting men think that it has'a good chance of passing—not, perhaps, in its present form, but with slight alterations in regard to the number of extra racing days. Thero will be two race meetings this week, one at Wanganui and another at Ambciiey. Both aro Hunt Club gatherings, and do not call for much comment. Most people are now looking forward to tho start of tho flat season, which, as usual, takes placo at Marton. The'Marton . Club has been favoured with splendid nominations, and everything looks well for a capital one-day meeting. The adjourned inquiry into tho lato scratching of Tho Rover for tho National Hnrdlos will be hold at Chiistchurch tomorrow. It is anticipated that some rather sensational evidence' will bo given. Providing that ho is an acceptor, Royal Arms is likely to bo a strong fancy for the principal event at Marton next week. Conflicting reports are to hand.concern ing the brown .son of Royal Artillery, but backers can rest content until the publication of theaccoptances.. C. Price, who is undergoing a twelve month's' disqualification over the National Hurdles incident, intends to spend porno of tho time of his retirement in- Australia. Ho will lenvo Wellington by Friday's steamor. Tho first of tho season's classics is tho Wauganui Guineas, and, taking a preliminary glanco through tho entries, it-appoars likely' that tho race will bo contested by a high-class field. The Karamn stable has Haskyno engaged. Porirua will.bo represented by' Styx, Jan, and Stepney. Bon Ton and Bon Revo aro - there to do battle for Messrs. Stead 8r05.,. Brown Owl is oligiblo to race for Sir Georgo Clifford, and Princo Soult' will represent his Auckland owners. Here, then, is material for tho finest Guineas contest ever seen on tho Wanganui course. Nominations for the Aehburton County Racing Club's spring meeting close tomorrow. Tho course proper at Dannevirke is reported to bo looking really well after being top-dressed and sown. Tho club's buildings havo all been renovated and improved, and owners and trainers as well as tho publio will have cause to. be pleased woth tho change. The Murrumbidgeo Turf Club's Wagga Show meeting, where tho New Zealand horse Obsono won a raco on Friday, is quite an unimportant fixture. Tho "prize money for tho various races ranges from .£lO to JE4O. A writer in a Christclutrch paper points out that "The Comedian, Magdnla's 6irc, is not by Merriwco from Variety, but is an Australian horse who was imported into New. Zealand about eight years ago, and was brought to Southland ami has never left it.' He was foaled in ISBB somo ten years beforo Merriwee." FIXTURES. September 4—Marton J.C. Spring.
