FRUIT AND VEGETABLE MARKETS.
l'ho fine ' weather experienced during this week has had a good effect on the fntifc and .vegetable- trade generally, liy this week's Sydney boat a fair quantity of oranges, lemons, passion fruit, mandarins, pineapples, niul loquats arrived, all lines meeting with an excellent demand, oranges especially so, owing to the shortage of Island oranges. A tew Tasmanian apples and pears arrived, together with some Mildura lemons by the Melbourne boat, and met with a ready sale. Local fruit is coining to hand in small lots, but the season lor local Mipplies is practically at an end. Vegetables are in fair supply'only, and most lines are meeting with a very brisk demand. The potato market has been rather excited during the week, and values have hardened considerably, with no signs of any reduction in the near future. ■The onion market is also very firm, as there are practically no local-grown offering. This week's Sydney boat brought a consignment of.Japanese onions, which arrived in very good order. The. quotations are as follow Oranges, Sydney, 10s.' to 10s. fld.; lemons, Sydney, lis. to lis. 9d.; Mildura, lis. to lis. !)d.; loquats, ss. to (is. per quarter case; passion fruit, ss. Gd. to 75.; mandarins, choice, lis. to 125., others 9.5. to 10s.'; pineapples, choice, 12s. Gd. to 135., others lis. to 125.; Tasmanian apples, stone pippins, Bs. to Bs. Gd.; local apples, choice dessert, Bs. to 10s., others 7s. to 7s. Gd.; cooking apples, choice, 7s. to Bs., others -Is. 6d. to ss. Gd.; Tasinanian pears, 7s. (id. to !)s. per half-case.; tomatoes, local hot-house-grown, choice, Is. 4(1. to Is. BJd. per lb., others sd. to Bd.; French beans (hot-house), Is. to Is. 3d. per lb.; rhubarb, 9d. to Is. Gd. per bunch; cucumbers, Gd. to 9d. each; cauliflowers, choice, 10s. to lis. per sack, others ,7s. to 'Bs. Gd.; cabbages, choice, ss. to 6s. 9d., others, 2s. to -is. Gd.; carrots, 4s. to 6s. per sack; parsnips, Is. to as. Gd.; beetroot, 4s. to 55.; Swede turnips, dull, at 2s. to ■ 2s.
