A Senatorial sub-committee is investigating tho question of campaign contributions to the parly funds from tlio big interests. In .a bitter debate, Mr. Roosevelt was accused of knowing that funds contributed by the trusts had helped to elect him. Senator Penrose asserted that Mr. G. W. Perkins, of the firm of J, P. Morgan clnd Co., and his associates underwrote 3,000,000 dollars (XGOO.OOO) to nominate Mr. Roosevelt. Tho committee decided to examine Mr; Archbold, of tho Standard Oil Trust, and others involved.
Senator Eeed declared: "We intend to ehow tho people that Mr. Roosorcll's hands aro most thoroughly tarred.'"
