PLIMMERTON'S NEEDS

RAILWAY IMPROVEMENTS REQUESTED. Improvements at Plimwerton station wore asked for by a deputation which was introduced to the Minister for Railways yesterday by Mr. W. H. D. Bell, M.P. Mr. W. Galloway (chairman of tho Hutt County Council) put forward a number of requests. The first was for n light at Pareniata station, which at present was not lighted at all. It was stated that the absence of a light had recently given rise to an accident. Another request was that a tablet porter should be established at the station permanently. Mr. Galloway also asked that a bettor approach should bo raado to tTie truckingyards at Plimmerton. Four chains of road at the back of tho station would do away with the necessity of driving stock across tho line. Mr. Millar liad promised two years previously that tho road should bo made, but nothing had bmm done.. Tho present wire-fence yards wero insecure, and should be replaced by timber yards. Another member of the deputation said that the present arrangements wero dangerous. Goods trains could not bo seen approaching for any long distance. On behalf of Plimmerton people it was asked that the- north-bound New Plymonth train should stop at Plimmerton if Tcquired. At present people wanting to go to Fcilding had to go to Porirua, and wait for an hour. The stopping of the train would be more useful on Monday than on other days. In nnv case, the up train should stop two or three times a wrolc' nnd the down train on Mondays. The Minister said that none of (lie requests weifi very large. If Mr. Millar had made tho promise mentioned, ho saw no reason why tho making of'the rond should not be put in hand. He would look into all the requests advanced, and advise tho member for the district of his decision.
