CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT.
OFFICER SENT TO LONDON. Mr. G. Spence, Collector of Customs at Invercargill, has been appointed to represent the New Zealand Customs Department in London. Tho appointment is mado in "pursuance of a determination recently arrived at by tUo Government, and announced at tho time by the Hon. ]?. M B. Fisher (Minister for Customs). Sir. Fisher stated that a Customs officer would bo stationed in London to watch tho export of goods to New Zealand, and to report to headquarters as to their quality, etc., tho idea being to placo sucli information in the hands of tlia Department as would mako it possible to exclude "shoddy" goods. Mr. Spenco will-leave immediately for London to take up his new duties.
