Masterton Wedding. A very pretty wedding took place yesterday afternoon at "Te Ivohanga," the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Wood, Masterton, when Miss Dora Hair, niece of Mrs. Wood, was married to Mr. David Strang, of Dunedin. The Rev. A. T. Thompson officiated. The bride, who was given away by Mr. Wood, wore a gown of white ninon, trimmed with real lace. She wore n handsomely-embroidered veil, and carried a bouquet of white roses and snowilakes. Mr. and Mrs. Strang left by the afternoon train for Christchurch, en route for their home in Dunedin. A Makino Wedding. Our Feilding correspondent writes:- At the residence of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hall, of Makino, the marriage took place yesterday of Miss litKM Hall, fifth daughter of Air. and Mrs. I '1, and Mr. Joseph Newell. The Rev. G. *d performed the ceremony. The brit. yAvlio was given away bv her father, wore a navy bl 110 costume' and a large black velvet lint with plumes. She carried a bouquet of violets. Her bridesmaid, Miss Ivy TLill, was in a pale blue silk muslin frock, -.villi guimpe, and sleeves of tucked net, au;l a pale blue crinoline hat. Her . bouquet was also of violets, the gift of lier sisler. Mrs. Goodwin. Mr. Grantham attended the bridegroom as best man. After the ccrcmony the wedding guests were entertained at afternoon tea at the home of the bride's parents. Wedding in Christchurch. On Saturday, August 17, in St. Luke's Church, Christchurch, the marriage tfljk place of Mr. Arthur Lilly, A.R.C.0., organist and choirmaster of St. Luke's, and Miss Elsie Brooke-Taylor, l of Christchurch. The ceremony was performed by Canon Sedgwick and Mr. A. AV. Lilly (brother of the bridegroom), organist and choirmaster at All Saints, Dunedin, played the organ, tho service being fully choral. The choir .sang Beethoven's "Halleluiah Chorus"' from the "Mount of Olives," and Mr. Lilly played the bridal music from "Lohengrin," and Mendelssohn's "AVedcling March. The bride, who Was given away by her brother, .woro a gown of ivoiy satin. The two. bridesmaids, Miss BrookeTaylor and Miss Beatrice Lilly, were in flocks of ivory crystalline, the former .wearing a black hat. with pink roses, and the last-named a. black hat with white plumes. Air. L. G. Lilly, of Wellington, was the best man, and Mr. S. G. Turner of Christchurch, groomsnuui. ■ The reception was held at the residence* cif Mrs. Brooke-Taylor, Salisbury Street, Air. and Mrs. Lilly leaving later for Timaru. Victoria Bowling Club's Social Evening. The A T ictoria Bowling Club held, its annual "social" on Tuesday evening at tho New Century Hall', Kent ■ Terrace. There was a good attendance and a very enjoyable evening was spent with progressive euchre and dancing The president (Mr. Norwood) welcomed the members and visitors, and afterwards presented tho euchre prizes which were won by Airs. Danient (first), and Miss Marks (second). After supper, vocal items were contributed by Miss Bradney (Auckland), and Air. Partridge, Air. Levi acconinanying. A dance succeeded, Messrs. Scott and Townsley acting as M.C.'s. Miss Mona Galo and Jliss Dorothy Evans, who were the winners, respectively, of the gold and silver medals in the .competition arranged by tho Cerclo J-.it-teraire Francais for proficiency in the : French lauguage, are both pupils of Chilton House School. Mrs. AValter Strang, of Palmerston, is paying a brief 'visit to Napier. ' Mrs. and Aliss .Elder (Wellington) have gone oil a visit to Napier. Aliss Rita Kebbell (Alfredton) is away on a visit to Christchurch. The marriage of Miss Lulu Bolton ("Oete," Pahiatua), to Air. I?. H. Robertsliaw takes place at. Holy Trinity Church, AVoodville, on August 28. Madame AVielaert, who has been, engaged by the Royal Choral Societv to sing the soprano part in;their performance of Gounod's "Redemption," arrived by the Alain Trunk express last night. The Hon. T. J[ackenzio,_ Mrs. Afackenzie, and the Misses Alaekenzie aro booked to leave for London by the Kaikoura, which sails from the Glasgow AVharf on Saturday morning. Tho Wellington Garrison Officers' ball takes place in the Sydney Street Schoolroom at the beginning of next month. Ilis Excellency the. Governor has announced his intention of being present. • Jliss AVardrop left Wellington by the Alaunganui for Melbourne yesterday. Her Excellency Lady Islington, the Hon. Joan Dickson-Poynder. Miss StapletonCotton, and Captain M'Dougall, A.D.C., were present at the rehearsal of the children's dances for the kindergarten ball held in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon.
A Farewell Tea. The farewell lea 'which was given for Jlrs. T. Mackenzie in tlio Windsor Hotel yesterday afternoon by members of the Women's Social and Political League, was largely attended. The reception rooms wero very gay with quantities of beautiful spring flower?., and in the room where lea was served the tables were arranged with anemones, blue hyacinths, and while and yellow narcissi. A committer, of which Mrs. Aloore was secretary, was in charge of the arrangements, ami upon her arrival Mrs. Mackenzie was presented by Lady Ward with a bouquet of white and yellow narcissi fastened with long streamers. Music and recitations were contributed by Mrs. llannan, Miss Eileen Ward, Mrs. Campbell, and Miss Hardinge-Alalt-by, and brief speeches expressive of regret at the coming departure of Mrs. Mackenzie and her family for England were made, Mrs. Mackenzie appreciatively replying. A somewhat unexpected guest— unexpected on account of the calls made upon his time at the present—was the Hon. T. Mackenzie, who made a brief appearance upon the scene. Cheers and the singing of "For He's a Jolly Good "Fellow" brought the afternoon to a. conclusion. Mrs. T. Mackenzie wore Mack charmeuse, with a satin cloak heavily embroidered, and a black hat; Miss Mackenzie was in grey, with floral hat; Lady Ward, in black velvet, large white hat with pink and white shaded flowers; -Mrs. Kcay-Brown, black satin and Mack hat; Mrs. Scddo.n, black charmeuse, and black plumed hat; Mrs. A. New Zealanders' Dance in Sydney. The annual ball of the New Zealand Association, which took place at Sargents 1 ' rooms, Market Street, Sydney, 011 August 15, was attended with complete success. An energetic committee had made the most complete arrangements, to the strains of Glass and Treniain's orchestra dancing was kept up witJi spirit until after midnight'. The Old Girls' Hockey Club of the Wellington Girls' College held its fifth annual dance in - St. Peter's Schoolroom last evening. There were many dancers present and all appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The hall had been decorated with lycopodium starred with Mack and gold rosos, the College colours, and the stage had been comfortably furnished for onlookers. Supper was laid in an adjoining room, .the tables being arranged with spring (lowers and with yellow and gold ribbon carried corner-wise from end to end. The ehaperones present wero: Mrs. M'Eldowney, wearing dove grey silk with grey net yoke; Mrs. Gilbert. ill black satin with overdress of I gold embroidered ninon; Mrs. Worboys, in sapphire blue velvet with tunic of jewelled net; Mrs..Turner, in black satin.
