During the voyage down tho Atlantic Ocean excellent results wero obtained in long-distanco communication, l'ola (on the Adriatic Sea, iii Atistfia) was spoken at a distance of tlireo thousand miles across tho intervening countries of Europe, and communication was established with Norddoich, 1800 miles away. Moreover, the ship's chronometers wero adjusted from tho Eiffel Tower (Paris) when tho steamer was 2000 miles awnv. While crossing the ice track tho Matatua spoko the United States cruiser Birmingham, which was policing the southern pack, and during the time the vessel was in the ico region, wireless communication was kept up with liners similarly fitted which wero in tho vicinity.
