THE NEW CAR SECTIONS.
FIRST DAY'S WORKING. Testerday witnessed tho commencement of the new system of car fares nnd sections on tho city tramway lines, and there was naturally a good deal of curiosity as to tho response which would bo Imado bpthft'jgenfral'ipjubliqjto ,tho efforts of the tramway authorities'to place the corporation cars on a paying basis. As was anticipated, thoro was a big sinmrj in traffic from John Street South into Newtown, and also from John Street to Constable Street. Several conductors wcro asked by a Teporter for their impressions of tho first day's traffic, and nil were agreed, that tho John Street section already referred to lias been "a. frost." "The Wallace Street (ars wero i\erloadod," said another conductor, jicularly, by way of indicating that the cltcration with regard to this route was a popular one. There was' also a slump in the Aro Street section, where the fare from tho post office has doubled. This section has had varying fortunes. At first it was a double section from Lamblon _ Station to the top of Aro Stret; tho section was rearranged, and tho cars ran from Aro Street to the post office for_ a penny—a very popular innovation. Now, far the same distance, the faro is 2d. There was a good deal of in' Newtown yesterday at _ the fjiectaclo of north-bound oars running empty to John Street, where passengers for tho city boarded them.
