REFORM IDEALS-
THE HON. J. ALLEN IN AUCKLAND. (Bγ TeJeEraoh.—Special CorrcSDonflenU Auckland, August 19. Discussing tho political situation with an Auckland reporter, tho Hon. James Allen said: : , "Well, we are progressing. Our policy has been clearly enunciated, and I believe well received. We have no desire to embitter political opponents by foolish and needless recrimination. National questions are always supreme to personal issues. That is the view of the wisest statesmen, and to that high and honourable ideal we shall endeavour to aim. That the confidence of tho country is in our keeping is, I think, obvious, and tho name Reform is not the bogey or catchword which some have alleged it to be. To Auckland, 'tho Queen City,' as it is called, the party shall look for an evergrowing continuanco of tho determination to freo our happy Dominion from tho spoiling of political hacks, and the placing of New Zealand in tho bright light of Imperial statecraft and commerce."
