A Napier Wedding. The wedding took place at the residence of the bride's brother-in-law, Mr. J. G. Parker' (Napior) of Mr. Frank H. Williams, of Napier, manager for Messrs. Macky, Logan, and Co.,- and Miss Maud Margaret Parker, youngest daughter of tho late Mrs. M. Parker, Wairoa. Tho Rev. P. Ramsay conducted the service. Tho bride Was gowned in. white marquisette trimmed with Parisian embroidery and wore a necklace of pearls and a pair of car-drops, the gift of the bridegroom. She was given away by Mt. T. Parker and was attended by her niece, Miss Sadio Smythe, dressed in white muslin and also wearing her gift, a pearl pendant from the bridegroom. Mr. H. AVillis, of Wellington, was the best man. A reception was subsequently held at the residence of Mr. and Airs. J. G. Parker, after which the bride and bridegroom left on a tour of the North Island. Mrs. Williams travelled in a braided costume of mole cloth, with hat to match and black furs. A Shakespeare Competition. The reading competition among pupils at secondary schools, conducted annually by the Shakespeare Club, was held on Saturday morning. The judges were Miss Holmes, Miss England, and Mr. E. S. Baldwin. A reading from sight and a prepared reading, both from Shakespeare's plays, were the competitive subjects, and two prizes, one for girls and ono for boys, were offered. The prize-winners were:—Miss Dora Pope (Girls' College), 88, and "Master E. R.ishworth (Boys' College), 72. Other placed competitors were: Miss Lydia Field (Chilton House School), 81, and Miss Kale Stocker (Fitzherbort Terrace School), 82. The test pieces chosen by the club aftordeil opportunities for declamation, but the soliloquies suffered somewhat in tho caso of those competitors who did not understand them. The judges were convinced that interest in Shakespeare's works is being awakened, and that reading aloud in schools has improved. Bridge and Euchre Tourney at Hutt. On Friday last a bridge and euchre afternoon, organised by Mrs. Strauclion and Mrs. Joliffe, in aid of St. James's .Church organ fund,, was held at the residence of Mrs. J. G. Rose, Lower Hutt. There were about fifty people present, and after some keeniy contested games, Miss Foster proved to be the winner of the euchre tournament, and Mrs. J. Dawson of the bridge drive.' Tea was served in the dining-room. A sum of £5 10s. was realised as a result of the afternoon's tourney.
Mrs. Taylor, who accompanied her mother, Mrs. Massey, to Wellington, left on Saturday on her return to Auckland. Mrs. Pringlo, wife of Colonel Pringle, of Palmerston North, has returned home after a short holiday spent with Mrs. Larcombe, of the Taita. Sir James, Lady, and Miss Mills, Mr., Mrs., and Miss Strang, Miss Maria Bauchop, Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs. George Bloomfield, Mr. and Mrs. Russell, and Mr. and Mrs. Grey, all of New Zealand, were among those on the lawn at Phyllis Court Club at Henley last month.
■Mr. and Miss Chrisp arrived in Wellington from Christchurch on Friday on their return journey to Gisborne. Mrs. Allen has accompanied her husband, tho Hon. James Allen, on his visit to Auckland. They are expected to return to Wellington on Tuesday. Mrs. Holmes Warren (Lower Valley) is visiting Wellington. The annual general meeting of members of tlio Pioneer Club is to be held this evening iu the Pioneer Club rooms. Included among the guests at the Albert Hotel aro the following:—Dr. Endlctsberge.r, of Auckland; Miss Marie Eaton, Miss Nance Maher, Miss Everilt, Miss Scherrard, Miss Maud Emory, Miss Flo.
