CARTERTON. • A number of settlers on the West Taratahi havo suffered of late through having their purebred sheep worried by dogs. ; It is expected that the Wningawa Freezing Works will open for the season about the end of October or early in November. The now additions to tlio works should bo completed about the beginning of the New Year. Mr. Charles Lumley, -whose death is reported from Asb hurst, was for many years captain of the Carterton Volunteer Fire. Brigade, and w.as tho brigade's representative at several conferences. He left Carterton a few years ago to establish business for himself at Ashihurst. Tho news of his death came as a shock to his many friends here.
