Private information has been received in Wellington to the effect Hint Mr. A. W. Newton, Consul for Norway, has been decorated as a Chovalior of tho Order of St. Olaf of tho first degree, by King Haakon. Mr. Newton is the head of tho firm of Messrs. J. Newton and Co,, of Kaiwarra, and has occupied tho position of Consul for Norway for the past four or five years. Tho Kevs. J. Dawson and W. S. Potter and the Hou. C. M. Tavlor wae presented to Parliament by the New Zealand Alliance yesterday. The ceremony took place at tho dinner adjournment of, the House of Representatives, and a considerable number of membors were present. Mr. L. JI. Isitt, M.P., made the presentation to the Honourable tho Speaker (Sir Arthur Guinness) who received it on behalf of the Legislature. Sir Arthur Guinness acknowledged the gift, and he, with Mr. Isitt and Mr. G. Laurenson mado short references to Mr. Taylor's admirable qualities as a man aiid as a Parliamentarian. The' portrait is linng in a corner of tho library often frequented by Mr. Taylor when he was a member, and on it is a t.iblet. inscribed t "T. E.
