THE NEW THEATRE. Good houses witnessed "East Lynne," which was shown for only one day and night at Ihe Mew Theatre, Planners Street, yesterday. MacMahon and Donnelly announce tho customary complete change, for to-day and to-night. Tho Vitngraph Coinpnny will ho represented by "Tho Counsel for the Defence," in which tho principal rolo wilL be assumed by Mr. Maurico Costcllo, who recently in America, ,in a public voting contest, headed tho list as the. most popular pic-ture-player of tho day. Tho distinctive, featuro of tho A.B. Company's drama, "A Beast at Bay," is tho pursuit of a convict who is escaping in a motor-car from a posse of warders on si railway engine. ' Vieovaro" is a pleasing scenic, riio Reliance drama "A Happy Thanksgiving," is a pretty domestic story. Tho comic element is well sustained bv "How Ho Papered tho Wall" (Vitagraph), "In YVoll"8 Clothing" (Hcpwix), and "Polidor'a Lunch" (Pasquali).
FULLERS' PICTURES. "The Craven," the Wild West dramatic story, and "Muggins, V.C.," and various supporting items on tho programme, were screened before a largo number of people at the Vivian Street Rink last evening for tho last time. To-night there will bo a complete, change of programme. Among tho new items advertised, tho following should bo attractive:—"A Beast at Bay," a thrilling and exciting story of an escaped -convict; "How Ho Papered the Room, a laughable comedy . acted by John Bunny, and "The Railroad Engineer," a fine dramatic story.
. THE KING'S THEATRE. All of the "arranged" dramas on (no Iranco-Prussian- War (fought long before tho days of Wneniatograpliv) which - the Kind's Theatre have screened so far have met with success, and the ono at present being screened—"'Twixt War and the Girl"— is no exception to tho rule as far as popularity is concerned. The supporting items include somo interesting films. "Chantillv Cream" is an exhilarating comedy, and Honour v. the Sword" is a good sterling dramatic piece. Tho views of tho motor trials on the Dieppe circuit are also most interesting, and provide a good example of tho ability of modern photography to reproduce speeds contests. A feature,of next Monday's programme at tho" King's Theatre will Iks screening of a fino dr.v matic subject entitled "Retribution." Tho title role is taken by that -well-known actress, Asta Milson.
" • THE ADELPHI. A new version of tho much-talked of Apnoho danco is being shown nt tho Adelphi Theatre in the picturo "An Adventurer's Lovo." Tho story, though perhaps somewhat intense, is very well acted. A pretty littlo love talc is "Sunshine Through Dark," in winch a poor girl, in a. moment of temptation, succumbs, but, in her hour of trial, her lover remains true. • Almost Gilbertiau in its humour is "Tho Violin Scraper," showing how a great musician's place is filled at a moment's notico by a wandering playor, whom tho audienco think and treat as if ho were tho great man himself, though only a few moments before they had howled the same performer down. Other interesting films are "Wonders of the Sea,"
"Just Smile," "Max as an Artist," and the ever-popular Patlio Gazette. A matinee is announced for next Saturday, when every child attending will receive a present, and a special children's programme will bo screened.
SHORTTS THEATRE. Tho star, item screened yesterday at Messrs. Shortt's continuous picture theatre is entitled "Tho Prido of tho Circus." It is a most interesting picture-play by the Nordisk Company. Tho doings of tho various performers of the travelling circus and their animals form tho setting for a romantic love story. The two young lovers meet with much opposition to their union, but lovo overcomes all and in tho end they are happily married with tho parental blessings. Of the supporting items tho Gaumont Graphic for current topics is instructive. "Tho Conjurer's Triumph" is a smart littlo comic sketch telling of tho doings of two rival suitors. Other good pictures are: "Tho School of Stone Gulch," a,.K«lcm drama, "Bibber's Rowr.#o," comic, and "Norway," a so'.'" film.
'-."> "THE DANDIES." Last night's entertainment at the .Concert Chamber drew vigorous applause from thq audience. . "The Dandies" (Green) seem to bo keeping up the reputation for wit and talent established by their confreres of "The' Dandies" (Red) Company. Mr. Walton appears- to bo favourite this week, and indeed in his two amusing songs, "Tho Cruise of tho Ancient Lights" and "The Huntsman," he is most laughable. Miss Henderson materially strengthens tho comic section of tho programmo with her "Jones." Mr. Brcnnan, in his monologue, and Miss Byrne singing "Sleepy Timo in Cadiz," both "caught on" well with their patrons. The programme will bo repeated to-night.
