MASTER OF EMBANK EXPLAINS. By Telegraph-Press .Association-OoDyrlsht (Rec. August 15, 10.10 p.m.) London, August M. Tho Master of Elibank, in a letter to "The Times," says his recommendation of Mr. Brown, the" miners' candidate for the Midlothian seat,- was due to his conviction that tho majority of the miners wore a moderating and restraining influence within (he Labour movement. When the immediate irritation of tho Midlothian contest had passed, perhaps it was possible that thoso in authority ill the constituencies would widen their outlook and consider how to embrace within tho Liberal ranks tho best democratic forces of the land. Ho concludes by hoping that the miners will not press the candidature of Mr. Brown. r
THREE-CORNERED CONTEST. - London, August 14. Dr. Williams, a Labour candidate, is actively contesting the East Carmarthenshire seat, where a vacancy exists owing to the death of Mr. Thomas (Liberal). Mr. Mervyn Peel (Unionist) and Mr. Jones (Liberal) will also contest the seat.
