LIVE STOCK SALES

The New -Zealand' Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:-We had a fair entry of sheep and a small one of cattle at our Mairterton sale yesterday. There was a good attendance of buyers, and competition was very keen throughout the sale especiallj' for hoggets and wethers. A total ckarance was effected. Wethers brought from 15s. to 18s. 6d.; hogprets, 10s. lid. to 145.; two-tooth .ewes, 17s. 9(1.; aged ewes in lamb, 12s. ?d. to Kβ.; empty ewes, 11s. 6d. to 135.; milk cows, £5.

Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report , on thoir Johnsonville sale, held yesterday, as follows:—A good yarding of extra prime bullocks, and a Ml yarding of ehcop came forward, and sold readily at late rates. Prime heavy bullocks, £11 to £11 7s. 6d. and £10 15s. to £10 17s. 6d.; prime bullocks. £10 to £10 10s.; lighter. £9 to £9 12s. 6<1.; prime wethers, 245. 3d. to 245. 6d.; medium ewes, 18s.; lambs, 11s. 7d. to 13s-.

Abraham and -Williams, Ltd., report:—At Waikanae, on Tuesday, we had good entries of both sheep and cattle: All sheep wero keenly competed for. nnd every pen changed hands under the hammer at prices in advanco of vendore' reserves. Good cpmpetition also existed for cattle, and, with the exception of a few dairy cows, tho yarding changed hands at the following quotations:—Hoggot? (Email), 9s. 6d. to 10s. 5d.; etore wethers, 15a.; fat wethers, 225.; ewes In lamb, 16s. 2d.; empty ewes. 11s. 5d.; springing heifers, £6 12s. 6d.; fat cows. £5 10s. to £7 25.; empty heifers, £3 12s. 6d. to £3 155.; three-year steers, £5 17s. 6d.; dairy cowb, £5 to £5 155.; weaners, 21s. to £2.

JlessTs. Jas. Macintosh and Co. report having held their weekly sale in thoir Waipoua. yards (ilasterton) yesterday, when they offored a yarding well above advertised numbers, which met with only fair competition, hut tho .whole yarding was cleared well up to late rates. F.JI. ewes in lamb (poor condition), 12s. 3d. to 12s. 9d.; woolly hoggets, 12e. Id. to . 135.; medium' hoggets, to 11s.;' small ho?gots, Bs.; fat wethers and owes, IBs.; dairy cows (close to calving), £7 10s. to £3; backward springing heifers, £3 15s.

ADDINGTON STOOK MARKET. (By Telegraph-Press Association.! Chrlstchurch, August 14. At Addington live &tock market there wore very small entries of stock and a fair attendance. There was no change in valnts of store' or fat sheep, and no fat lambs wore offered. Thero was a sharp rise in fat cattle. There was only a, small yarding of store sheep, and the entry contained nothing of special merit, oxcept a few lines of ewes, a few lots of hoggets, including one or two pons of ewe hoggets, and a couple of pens of wethers. Late rates wore about maintained, though one or two lots of ewes were passed. If there wa3 any change in value it was in favour of buyers. Six and eight-tooths made 225. to 235. 6d.; the lattor price being paid for a line of purebred cheep; sound-mouth ewes of good class, 20s. 3d. to 21s. 6d.; Inferior ewes and culle,. 12s. 9d. to 145.; inferior two-tooth ewes, off high country, small and,in low condition, 10s.; and a few dTy owes, inferior, Bs. to 12s. 6d. Ewe hoggets made 165., 17s. 6d.; wethei hoggets. 14s. to 155.; extra, to 15s. 6d.: and a small pen of inferior mixed hoggets, 10s. to lis. £d. Four arid six-tooth hnlfbrcd wethers made 17s. 9d.; interior two-tooths, In low condition, 4s. 3d. Thero was a very small yarding of fat sheep, there being less than twenty owners represented. Tho sale was somewhat irregular, but prices were about the Eamc as those ruling the previous week. There were no fat lambs penned. The range of prices was;— Prime wethers, 225. to 255.: a few extra, to 27«.: others, 18s. 9d. to 20s. fid.; prime ewes, 18s. 6d. to 245.; a fow extra, to 275.; others', 15s. lOd. to. 18s. 2d.; merino owes, 14s. Id. to 153. The yarding of fat cattle was only a smqll one, totalling' 142, compared with 224 the previous week. Owing probably to short nupply, thiTe was spirited competition. Amd compared with prices ruling a week earlier values advanced about 2s. per 1001b., the range being 265. to 365. Steers reaJiscd £8 2s. 6d. to £12 10s ; extra, lo £22 10s.; heifers. £7 to, £12 10s.; and coivs, £5 10s. to £12 10a. The yarding of store cattle was a good one, both in point of number and qua.!ity, and there was improved demand. YearHHP's, 30s. to £2 10s.; 15 to 18-month sorts, £3.7s.'fid. to £4 25.; two-year steers £4 155.; two-year heifers. £4 45.; three-year steers, £7 7s. 6d. (passed); and cows, £2 10s. to £5 17s, S3. A fair yarding of dairy cum, many being of better quality than at recent market*, met with keen demand, better sorts beine In great request. Prices ranged from £5 to £11. There was only a Bmall -yarding of fat pigs, and the market showed no variation from tho previous week. Choppers made to £5 55.; heavy haconere, 655. to 705.; and lighter, 50s. to E<is. (equal to 55d. nor lb.). Best porkers realised 435. to 475. 6d.: and lighter, to 40s. (equivalent to 55d. per lb.). Only a small number of stores were penned, and, as there were no buyers at the reserves fixed, no sale 6: took., place at auction.
