VISITING SPORTSMEN.
THEIR ROD AND GUN LICENSES. An old question, whether visiting sportsmen should not be required to pay more for their licenses than' resident sportsmen, was revived by the chairman (Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp) at tho Acclimatisation Conference yesterday. Hβ moved; "That all non-residents of New Zealand should bo charged double rates for licenses, both fishing and game." This, said tho mover, was a fair charge on visiting sportsmen, who were invariably surprised at the modest fees they were asked to pay for their sport. The extra charge would also 'enable tho societies to employ additional rangers. . Mr, H. H. Ostler (Wellington) seconded the motion. Many' tourists to whom ho had spoken had commented upon the ridiculously low fees charged for their licenses, and declared that they would 1:9 (juito prepared to pay ton timc9 as much, lie knew of one gentleman, who had just given up a fishing lease in tho Old Country, which had cost him .£IOOO a •year, nnd considered that at .£SO his few 'weeks' uport in New Zealand would bo remarkably cheap.) After further idiscussion, an amendment by Mr. C. Trimmell (Wellington), and seconded by Mr. W. P. Kirkwoort (Stratford) "That the fees for oversea sports-' men should bo ,£5 each for pame and fishiHS* licences, and ,£lO for deer-stalk-ing licenses," was carried.
