— ? dominion confidence to be HELD. The monthly meeting of tUc Wellington Provincial Jiuinstnul Association was held lust evening, tho president (.Mr L Ji. Partridge) in the chair. There win aI J attendance of about a dozen members. J lie statement-of finances disclosed a credit balance of t £26 14s. 3d. A, letter was received from the Minis, ter tor Customs (the Hon. I'. M. B. I'ishcr), conveying the information that legislation would be introduced to have the export duty oil jewellers' swoepinjfs.sent out of .New Zealand removed. Hie Minister s letter was in reply to a previous communication from the association with .reference to • tiio .subject. A' resolution - was forwarded mm the Auckland Provincial- Jmliistrial Association, in which tlie desirableness of presenting at (he earliest opportunity a statement of the general conditions of laojur in New Zealand to (lie new Government was affirmed. Tho opinion of the Wellington loinmiltccwns invited. The chairman raised the question of a conference of delegates to tho Industrial Corporation of .\ew Zealand, and sugthat the secretary might bo asked to writo to the provincial associations, proposing such a conference. Mr. 'i'. Bollinger moved to (hat effect. It was agreed that the conference which would be held in Wellington, should take place during the Parliamentary session, and about tho same time as the conference of employers. The chairman (Mr. L; K. Partridge) was appointed to represent tho association on the Parliamentary Committee of tho Employers' federation. -Mr. \V. Pryor, Secretary of tho New Zealand Employers' Federation, attended 'he meeting for the purpose of presenting the. views of his council on the subject of amendments to the Conciliation and Arbitration Act. Mr. 'J'. Ballinger said that t-hesc matters should be discussed in camera. • .Afr. .1. P. Luke was in favour of open discussion. ' Mr. Pryor said that so far as he personally was concerned, he would like to declaim his views from the house-tops, but ho had no authority from his council to agree to an open discussion. The matters which he had been deputed to interview- tho association about were of a confidential nature. Tho meeting accordingly resolved to go into committee, agreeing at the same time that discussion of the dispute with the Technical School authorities in the matter of tho rent of the association's building, in Victoria Street, should also be taken in camera. '
