Wedding in Hill Street, A very quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised at "Kenihvorth," Hill street, on Thursday, August S, whoa Mr. Arnold Charles Beaven, youngest son of the late George Beaven, of "Fairbanks," Wanganui, was married to .Miss Alico Pole, youngest daughter of Mrs. Main, of Pukekohc, Auckland. The bride, who was given away liv Mr. Vi. J. Ewart, wore a charmingly dainty frock of finest white muslin, inset with large true lover's knots of dclicato Malteso insertion, and tiny embroidered medallions, the dress being speciallv designed and made entirely 'by hand. Tho conventional veil and orange blossoms, and a beautiful shower-bouquet was carried. Miss Sterling (Dunedin) waa the only bridesmaid, and woro a white embroidered muslin over palest green chiffon taffetas, with rever and elbow cuffs of pale green satin, beautifully liandpainted in snowdrop design. Also a. note of originality appeared in the quaint little Juliet cap of white tailing, threaded with green ribbon, finished with tiny bows, and bordered with pearls. The posy bouquet was of palest pink blooms and inaidonhair, tied with ribbons to match. Mr. Gilbert Gardiner (Mangaweka) officiated as best man, and the Rev. W. Jollie, 8.A., performed the wedding ceremony. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a watch-set, in a lizard-skin wristlet, and to the bridesmaid a richly-chased gold bangle. Mrs. TT. J. Ewart received the guests at tho subsequent reception, and wore a black silk frock, with yoke of rich. Indian lace. Mrs. Geo. Beaven (mother of the bridegroom) also wore black, with furs, and carried a very pretty posy bouquet of mauve Mexican nereiinial neas and maidenhair! Mrs. Fletzer and Mrs.Green (sisters of the bride) wero in becoming tailor-mads costumes of navy and brown respectively, large hats to match. Miss .Beaven wore a dress.of soft neriwinKe 'blue, with biscuit shade, the very becoming hat being carried out in the samo effective colouring. Other gu-'ts were:— Mr.-'anrl Mrs. Fred. Presentations, On Friday evening, at Havelock North, Miss Driscoll, who has received notice of her transfer, by the Post and Telegraph Department, to Woolston (Canterbury) was, with her mother, Mrs. Driscoll, entertained at a'farewell social in the Village Hall, about two hundred people being present. Songs, recitations, and dancing formed the entertainment of tho evening. and during an interval the Mayor of Hastings (Mr. J. Garnett) presented Miss Driscoll with a purse of sovereigns as symbolical of tho regard in which she was held by her friends. To Mrs. Driscoll was presented a silver teapot. , Mr. and Miss Seymour (Picton) left Wellihgtoiv by the Maunganui last Fri- , day on a visit to Sydney and Brisbane. Mrs. Kosworthv has gone south for a fortnight. Mrs. Blandford, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs; Polloclc. in Hastings, left on.Saturday for Dunedin. Miss Gretchen Hutlicrford (Kekerangu), who has been visiting Miss Speed (Hobson Street) loft for Christchurch- last week. Mr. and Mrs. Howard have returned to Blenheim from their visit to Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. Goring Johnston and Mrs. Foster Tratt returned to Palmerston on Saturday from a visit to Napier.' Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Duncan left for Christchurch last evening. Mrs. Montague leaves for Napier to-day, where she will act as accompanist during the Competitions. At the conclusion of .the Napier Competitions Mrs. Montague goes on to Auckland to perform the same duty there. Miss Pickering, who has been spending a few days in town, returned to Masterton' yesterday. On Tuesday, July 5, at Cambridge (England) tho marriage took place of Mr. Will Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (England), son of John A. Spens, and Miss Dorothy Theresa Selwyn, daughter of tho late John Selwyn, Bishop of Melanesia, and of Mrs. Selwyn. Miss Nellie Hogg (Masterton) has gono on a visit to Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. ,T. Armstrong have Toturned to Dannevirke from their visit to Napier, Tho Hawke's Bay District- Officers'" ball was held in tho Garrison Hall, Napier, last Friday, and was a brilliant success.
