« . ENGINE SHEDS PABTIALLY DESTROYED. (Df Telegraph.—Press Assoclatlpn.l Invercargill, August 11. A serious outbreak of fire occurred this morning,' when the recently erected railway engine sheds in Tweed Street werepartially destroyed. The fire was discovered about 8.30 a.m., and it then had a strong hold. It is stated to have origin-, ated in ono of tho cleaner's lockers, and it spread rapidly along and up the walls to the roof. About half of the roof of tiro structure was destroyed and the walls wore, damaged. THE CUBA STREET PIKE. Tho promises at the cornor of Cuba and Garrett Streets gutted by fire on Friday evening wcro insured by Mr. ". G. Alncarthv (the owner) for ,£1250 in tho Commercial Union Offico. Mr. C. G. Elumes's stock was covered by a policy for .£IOSO in the same ollko. Mr. H. J. .Archer states that the tiro originated in .Mr. ltihinics's shop, not the -premises recently occupied by him, On consnltnis Mr. Tait (Superintendent of the Fire Brigade), from whom our information was obtained ho stated that on the night of tho fire he- was under tho impression that the outbreak had originated in Mr. Archer's half of the premises, but on investigation, it was found that the fire had burnt through the wall from under Mr. Rhimcs's staircase.
