A fire occurred at Apiti last night. Premises belonging to Mr.- Cummerfield (empty) and tho house of * P. M'Connell were totally destroyed. 'The damage is about .£OOO. ' . Merino lambs have alreadv appeared in 1< eliding which is earlier than was the case last season. Lambs are also appearing _dnily in the Sandon district, but so, by the way, is sheep-worrying by does. Un ono farm, where some 2,5 sheep wero worried a week ago, the farmer shot tho offending dog which proved to be his own . Members, of the Feilding and Palmerstdn Motor Cycle Clubs will set out on a mil-climb this afternoon. In the evening tho Manawatu Motor Cycle Club are giving a banquet in Palmerston to which members of the Oroua Club are invited. Mr. J. Cr. AVilson (chairman) was absent from tho monthly meeting of tho Manawatu County Council yesterday owing to illness, and' Councillor M'Kenzie presided. The engineer reported that it would cost ,£2300 to make the new roads through the Kopano.'Flat at.
