Mr. W. Murdoch presided at a meeting of the Debating Society 011 Tuesday night in tho Druids' Hall. Tho debate was n competitive ,011 c, the motion being "That circumstances have a greater influence over a man that he lias over circumstances." Mr. Clalland, of Moutoa, acted as judge, and awarded first plnct to Mr. T. nensmon, tho other competitors being placed in tlio order named: Mrs. Murdoch, Mr. Trainer, and Miss Laurvig. fii the subsequent discussion, Messrs. \V. Clayton Murdoch, Selby, Dunckley, and Key took .part. For licit Tuesday night the item on the syllabus in "Hobbies." • '
