THE COW HOUSE ROOF.

SUGGESTED IMPKOVEMEXI'S. Deference was made by sfr. J. 0 m son, president of the New Zealand Farmers Union Conference, in his opening address, to tho necessity of having tlie most improved milking sheds in connection with the dairy industry. Mr. Wilson quoted an article from tho Highland and Agricultural Society's Journal bv Air J IC 'J a ™ Henderson on "An Improved Hoot tor tho Cow Hoifee," in which the writer condemned what ho calls tho couple roof—which consists of open rafters, collars, and ties—as well as the pi iucipal roof, for the same reason that there is a want of ventilation, and that there are many places where dust anil cuius can lodge, and cause the n-ilk to 'bo contaminated. The roof ho suggests is carried on rolled steel girders, which serve as ties to the walls, carrying a reinforced concrete roof with ;i flight fall from the middle, and down the centre is a protected ventilator, .running all tho way along. The windows have a headlight, which opens inwardly and these give a complete (insulation of air and eioss venilation. It would teem to be well worth consideration in uir'lding, remarked llr. Wilson, whether this form, although perhaps more costly, might not bo a great improvement upon the present mode.
