y CANDIDATES MENTIONED. The Hon. Thos. Mackenzie left for tlio south lrtst evening.- He .lias intimated that lie will require two or Ihrce weeks to arrange liis_ private affairs and the matters he has in hand in connection with his constituency. As soon as Mr. Mackenzie is ready, his Excellency the Governor will be advised to make the appoint-, ment. This will, of course, involve his resignation ot' his seat in the House of Representatives as member l'or Egmont. The Government candidate for tho seat will be. Jlr. C. Wilkinson, who is popular iu the district and a man of mora than ordinary ability. He is «t present returning from a visit to Canada. It is understood, however, that ho will l>e back in New Zealand in time for the election. Mr. -Wake, who contested the election in 1903, claims to be the Opposition candidate. Mr. Jennings, formerly member for Taiimarunui, who was ousted at last election by Mr. Wilson, is a possible candidate 011 the Opposition side, and Mr. Dive, who was displaced at last election, inav also stand. The Government seem to-be finite confident of winning the seat, in which event'their majority in the House will be increased by twu votes.
