SUPERANNUATION
FOR LOCAL BODIES' EMPLOYEES. A depvitntion representing the recently formed Institute of Local Government Engineers waited en the Municipal Conference yesterday to urge the delegates to establish a .superannuation scheme for the employees of local bodies. Mr. Samuel .Tickell, president of the Institute, said that one of the objects of tho deputation was to introduce the Institute to the conference. Its object was for mutual help of its members and of tho local bodies. The instituto would bo able to help local bodies to secure the services of suitablo engineers to carry out their works. In turn they asked the local bodies to exercise the powers granted to them under the law, and lo establish a superannuation schemo for emplovecs. The association had had the matter under consideration for some years, and had had actuarial advice. lie hoped that now the schemo would be inaugurated without further delay. He thought local Government engineers, equally with Civil Servants were entitled to superannuation benefits. Ho stated that tho institute had 8G members, and after October next admission to it would lx> by examination only. Mr. E. S. Rounthwaite, vice-president of tho instituto, supported the request, stating that what the.deputation de.sired was a scheme similar to that in vogue in New South AVales.
The chairman assured tlief deputation that their, appeal would bo given due consideration by the conference.
