ENTERTAINMENTS.
RICKARDS TIVOLI COMPANY. To-night at tlio Opera House, the appearance of the Y'audevillo Company under the Harry Rickards direction, a combination of clever artists will perform, and the advance booking indicates that a packed liou.se will bo recorded. There are, it is stated, no fewer than ten acts, embodied in to-night's programme fairly entitled to tho designation of star turns. Foremost of all is that of Binnldo, the wandering violinist, whoso performances uro characterised by novelty, originality of conception, and artistic merit. Tho trick pianist, Mr. Will H. Fox, presents another brand new specialty. Miss Home Mine, tho English comedienno, a chic soubrette, who submits a song story and dance budget, Walker and eccentric racquet spinners, Blako and Granby, comedy sketch artists, Ronald George, linglis'h musical specialty artist, Mr. Marshall Crosby, a iine baritone, the Bright Sisters, singers and dancers, and Messrs. Melrose and Mcnzies, patter comedians of note, are among the company. In view of tho heavy demand for seats, it is advisable to secure seats in a<lvanco at tllo Dresden. l)ay sales can be secured at Christeson's after 1 p.m. to-day at the Opera House. FULLERS' PICTURES. In addition to the chango programme pictui'es which were shown at the Skating Kink, in Vivian Street, on Monday night, several new items wero introduced last night. Ono of these new pictures was a dramatic number entitled "At Scrogginses' Corner." It is a rural drama, featuring John Bunny in serious vein. "A Son's Devotion," "Curious Effects of Vibration," "Fiumicus Entertains his Sister," ami "Royal Ascot, 1912," are other fresh pictures. Among the other items in the current programme arc: "The Sport of Kings" and "Tho Trail of Gold," two very fine numbers. THE NEW THEATRE. "Lovo in the Tropics" is one of the loading pictures in the .programme which is now ueing screened at Messrs. MacMahon and Donnelly's New Theatre, in Manners Street. It is an interesting love story. Othc.' pictures are: "The Price of . Big Hob's Silence," "A Trip to Lake' Constance," "fathsr'a Forty Winks," mul "Hatred at tho Music-halls." "Love ui tho Tropics" will bo shown for the last time to-day and to-morrow. A complete chango of programme is announced for Friday. A new "star" picture, entitled "Brand of Shame," is advertised for Monday. KING'S THEATRE. Several new" pictures were screened at tho King's Theatre last night. Among theso is a fine picture of Luclinow, India. In few places can more brilliant effects bo obtained than in India. Tho myriads of temples and mosrjues in various styles of architecture peculiar to the country, make an interesting study. In this film of fine quality arc seen, in panorama, the palace and gardens of Nossinehabad, tho sacred boat of the Maharajah and tho Palace Baths. Then follow a series of scenes illustrating .the markets of Lucknow, a Hindu cale, tho grinding of corn (two workers to each grinding stone). India is notoi for its jewels and precious stones, and hero wo see the lapidaries at work. Other pictures show tlio interior of a busy hairdresser's tlio carding of wool, tho weighing of the wool and the wool market, tin! filially the very interesting and artistic occupation of chasing on copper. Other new items are: "Scrogginr.cs' Corner," "Tho Lost Dog," and "Patlifl Gazette." Besides these tho programme includes "A Woiran's Way," "Marseilles to Bastia," "A Flortiiio Intrigue," and other attractions. SHORTT'3 THEATRE. The curroit - programme at Shortt's Theatre, in Willis Street, is drawing big audiences. Among tho pictures shown yesterday was one of the Arnst-Barry Ixiat race on tlio Zambesi. Cther subjects screened wore "Blackpool, England," "Larvao of the Ant,' "Nemesis," and "Paying tho Price." In addition there were some good comics. ' . THE ADELPHI."'- ' Owing to tho Sydney boat not having connected at Auckland in time, tho Adelphi management wero unable until last night to give their patrons tho full programme as advertised. However, till was sot right last evening, when an excellent series of pictures' was screened. Amongst the new items are "The Old Actor," an A.B. drama, rf exceptional merit,
"Summer Pictures," a very pretty sccnic, and "How to Prepare a Collection of Caterpillars/' a most uncommon industrial film. ' Tho ever-popular "Patho Gazette" provided a great deal of interest; and a most amusing comedy wag "Friscot's New Occupation." The feature film of the week is entitled "Matrimonial Squalls," and is a quite uncommon typo of comedy, telling of the vicissitudes of a young Frenchman, who essays twice into the dangerous zone of married life. Of course, everything ends happily over afterwards. The programme will ho repeated for tho remainder of the week. THE DANDIES. Another good andicnco filled the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last night, where the Green Dandies aro now firmly established. The members of this musical costume comedy company all contribute pleasing items to an enjoyable entertainment, notable' features being Mr. Kcnn Millar's bass solo, "Tom o' Devon," and Miss Dorothy Manning's "Daffodils." Tho duets and trios also proved popular. This evening the programme will bo repeated. SONG RECITAL. Mr. Leo Buckeridgo will give a scjig recital on Friday, August 9, in St. Andrew's Hall, "Wellington Terrace, assisted by Mrs. Natusch, and the Misses Nora Natuscli, Eita M'Coll, Dorothy Cotton, and Barbara Roger. Lovers of good music will find that a very attractive and artistic programmo has been prepared. "Ben Hur" was staged for the last time at the Opera Honse last evening. From a purely spectacular point of view it is certainly one of the finest pieces that J. C. Williamson and Co. have brought out here. The company de<part for the south to-night.
