MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Maslcrton, July 30. Slips havo had the effect of closing the road between Brancepetli and Strowan. Several other roads are also partially closed. Other damage has been done throughout the Wairar'apa. A big slip has blocked Dagg's Road, Ihuraua. . Mr. C.' E. .Darnell, vice-president of tho Mastertou Chamber of Commerce, will preside at a meeting to be held in Murray's Hall to-morrow night, to discuss the question of opening up the East. Coast by railway. Delegates are expected from Hawke's Bay, as well as from all parts of the Wairarapa. There is a keen desire locally to see the whole of the fertile east coast country opened up by railway. Proceedings at the deputation which recently waited upon the Prima Minister in referenoo to tno grazing runs in this district have created a deal of public comment. The leases of several of these Tims had expired, and itlie Land Board had surveyed some of them for sub-division. Disappointment will be felt if the decision of the Land Board is now over-ridden.
