THE PROPOSED CASTLEPOINT LIGHT.
■ Sir,—Would you kindly grant me a few lines in yonr valuable journal to suggest tho advisability before it is too late to place the iron lighthouse now in course of construction in the vicinity i of the Kahau Bocks as being a much more, suitable place than Gnstlepoint? Tho light, if placed on Castflepoint, will be of little, if any, use to anyone; if placed near the Kahau Eocks, of the greatest value as a warning of the-many dangers in the neighbourhood. The Kahau Docks lie off a turning point 2S • miles N.E. of Cape Pnllisor, and the coast is fringed with dangers for 21 miles, in s'ome cases extending nearly three miles off shore. Several wrecks and strandings have taken place near it, it being one of tho most da'ngerous .stretches of coast in the whole of New Zealand. I havo known of lighthouses being abandoned and other more suitable sites chosen after being in uss for years. Tho opinions of all experienced shipmasters will, I am sure, be in favour of the lighthouse being erected near the Kahau Eocks.—l am, MASTER MARINER,
