With tho advent of tho taxi-cab and tho-electric tram, tho usefulness of tho horse and horse-drawn vehicle has diminished (writes our Auckland correspondent). The inarch of tiio motor in Auckland, has been a short but almost triumphant one, with tho result that tho number of horses in use.in tho city has been gradually on tho decline, and this is particularly tho ease with liorso vehicles which ply for hire for passenger traffic. A well-known livery stable proprietor has something interesting to say on the matter. "Tho people must havo speedier means of transit," he said. "It is only a question of time when tho ordinary hansom and four-wheeler will bo relegated to obscurity, for taxi-cabs aro the only vehicles which are finding favour, even with tho poorer classes. It is only two and a half 'years ago .since tho first live taxi-cabs were imported into Auckland, and licenses issued to tho owners. We livery people laughed at them at iirst. After three months, however, wo changed our tune altogether, for we recognised that for Auckland the 'taxi' was going to have a bigger future than wc had over imagined. Now there aro 70 licensed motors, and tho demand is increasing every (lav." Where- have the horses gone? "Mostly to Australia, I think. Last year a very largo'number were shipped from New Zealand porta to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.' He writes: "I was incapacitated for eight months and could not go to sea. In fact, I was bent double with pain. I fried Hotorua for three months, and came back to Auckland not having received any benefit. Nothing seemed to do me good until a friend of mine, who had also taken KHEI'JfO, asked me to give it a triai. I did so, and after.taking four bottles, the result surprised both myself and friends who knew how I bad" suffered. ] always recommend KKEt'MO to anyone who suffers with Rheumatism or Gout."
