"RARE CHANCE TO STEADY MEN."
' DETECTIVES STEP IN. On. Thursday last, while perusing the evening paper, Chief-Detoctivo Broberg chanced to see the following advertisement:—"To shearers—Tho undersigned is iesirous of procuring 20 shearers for Mount Gambior district (S.A.)j 7000 per man; permanent work after shearing; rare chance to steady men; £\ deposit.—F. A. Abbott, Empire Hotel, Wellington." To tho practised eye of the Chief-Detective tho advertisement looked suspicious. Inquiry was set on foot, and on Saturday Detectivc-Sorgeaiit M'llvency and Detective Bailey arrested a man on, a cimrgo arising ,out of the advertisement. This morning the man will bo charged,with attempting to obtain money by means of false pretences.
