THE YEAR OF FATE.
i Mother Shipton's prophecy and the way it stirred Englnnd have been recalled by a forecast in Germany of 1913 as a "year of fate." The origin of tho idea is traced to 1829, the year in which Prince William, later tile first German Emperor, was married. The formula is to add together the digits of ono "year of fate," and to add the total to the number representing the next "year of fate.' Thus, the sum of the digits in 182!) is 20, which, added to 182!), gives 1810, tho year of the revolution I hat brolte tho feudal power of tho Prussian Crown. Again, the sum of tli# digits in )8W is. 22, whicli, added to 181!), gives 1871, the oventful year of tlie formation of tho present Empiro. The same process next .results in 18S8, the year in which Emperor 'William and his son and successor, l'Yoderick 111, died, leaving the way clear for t.ho reigning Kaiser. This brings us to 1013, tho next. "Scliick-sals-.Tahr." Then will como 1927, when the German navy may realise the plans now being formulated or only dreamed of. Meanwhile, there are other superstitions conneofed with the monarchy to keep the imaginative expectant. One story is that the "Kaiser carries a bullet .and a "piece of the garment of a materialised spirit" wherever he goes, tho clotli being stuffed in his walchcase. Then there is the "Whito Lady of tho Hohenzollerns," which has frequented their castles for 100 years. .
