TROUBLE IN A PORK SHOP.
INDIGNANT EMPLOYEES, IBy Telecraph.— Snecial CorniSDonflenU Auckland, July 20. Something in the nature of a strike occurred yesterday •on the premises of Messrs. Fischer Bros., Limited, which arecarried on as a email goods pork shop and restaurant, and the employees to the number of about twelve refused to work for about an hour. Mrs. Fischer explained to a reporter the circumstances leading up to the "strike." Sho said that tho employees hud no grievance , whatever against Mr. 1 ischer, the managing director, who is in charge of tho business. Tho trouble arose, sho said, owing to the action of one of the directors of the firm on •■Wednesday morning. This director, • who was anxious to sever his connection witli the firm, sent a'man to the premises to watcli the eonduct of the business on his bchnlf. Nothing drastic- was dono on that day, although tho employees showed signs 'of Teshveness at what they considered to be a slight on their characters. Tho watcher appeared again yesterday, and tho 'employees became so indignant that they walked out of the shop at 12.30 p.m., and refused to continue to work unless the surveillance ceased. :After the refusal of the men to' work/ legal advioo was sought, and ,tho solicitor decided that the director had; no .authority l j tos <appoint'i 'a iman to watch tho .conduct of the business. After tho men had been out for about an hour the watcher left, and the men then resumed their work..ln.conclusion, Mrs. Fischer stated that the shaves held in the company by the director referred to would bo bought out by Mr. Fischer to-day. Tho director concerned in the trouble was afterwards approached. "All I can say at present," he said, "is that all arrangements wcto made between tho then managing director of the company nnd tho chairman of directors th<ft a man should be appointed to carry out the duties of shopwalker in the establishment."
