Addressing tho inaugural meeting of thw branch of the Legion of Frontiersmen, at Tβ Aroha, Colonel Allen' Bell said he regretted very much tho remarks of General Godlo'y regarding tho senior cadets and school teacher ofheers. In. his professional enthusiasm General Godley hos evidently forgotten tho great underlying principles of the military training: movement, which were not only the art of war ■ but the development of those ideals which made for the elevation of the national character. On the pormanent staff of tho New Zealand Defence Force- there TPero r<en known to bo hopelessly incapable of either imparting military instruction or devcloning thoso high ideals, whilo other capable ineii on tho staff had been' passed over in promotion. Colonel 801 l said ho was on ndvocato of tho abolition of the paid army class of instructor and military pomp and humbug, and the substitution of a citizen army, where men would hav» an eaual chanoo to rise.
