WAIHI-A MOVE MADE.
PREMIER ASKS FOR REPORT. Two, or perhaps three, of the Conciliatiou Commissioners aro to go to Waihi to obtain such information as will enable them to report to the Minister for Labour (tho Hon. W. F. Massev) upon tho position of affairs there. The Coininissioners will interviow the parties to the mining dispute, but their present mission is to obtain informatipn and not to act as mediators. Messrs. Hally and Harle Giles leave for Waihi to-day, and Mr. Trigga will probably follow to-morrow. THE REEFTON DISPUTE. The Hon..W. F. Massey in his capacity as Minister for Labour had a long interviow yesterday witli twelve representatives of the Reefton Miners' Union. Mr. R. Seniplo, organiser of tho New Zealand Federation ot Labour, and Mr. V. O'Rcgan, attorney to the Federation, were present. Tho proceedings were private, and nothing was disclosed as to what took place. , BOROUGH WANTS ASSISTANCE. Tho troubles of stricken Waihi were laid beforo the Prime Minister (tho Hon. W. I'. Massoy) by a deputation from the Borough Council. It was a private ration, such being the wish of the Waihi representatives. The Borough Council are not directly concerned in the 6h'ik« as partien, but they are affected very sericusly by it. Most of their revenue was from gold duties, and as there is no gold being won they get no duty; But they have still to maintain and pay insurance upon a number of municipal workera' homes, to keep up a fire brigade, and to keop up certain nesessary services on no revenuo at all, for there are no rates, and it would bo a difficult matter to collect any no iv jf they were due and payable. What tho deputation asked exactly was not disclosed, but they asked tho assistance of the Government in eoino form,
