WIRELESS AT THE CHATHAMS.
AN AID TO SHIPPING. In reply to ail inquiry made by. the Hon. P. M. B. Fisher (Minister for Marine) as to wliat tlio postal authorities wore doing in ttie direction of erecting u wireless station at the Chatham Islands, tlio Hon. R. H. Rhodes • (PostmasterGeneral) has supplied tlio information that it is hoped to have a station in working order at the Cliathams, within seven or eight months. At the rame time, tho Marine Department is considering tho question of wireless apparatus for steamers, tho idea being to require that all steamers engaged in the passengor trade shall canT a wireless equipment. It is •hoped thai; xthen this schema is in operation a considerable saving will be effected. In the past lange sums liavo been spent ir. sending search vessels down to tho Chatkuns to look for missing vessels. In tho c-aso of t.lie Duco, and later in that of tlio Himitangi, a considerable amount w money was 'spent wfoich would probably hare "been saved had a wireless station existed.
