Mr. Alex W. Nisbet has been appointed to represent the Sounds Branch at the Dominion- Conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, to bo held in Wellington, commencing 011 Tuesday, July 30. Mr. W. At the meeting of tho Rugby IJnion last night, Mr. ]i. 0. Hales (chairman) made reference to Mr. Hill's pending departure for tho northern city. A Presa Association message received from Sydney last night states that Mr. John Ban-, the well-known New Zealand pressman is recovering from u critical illness. Mr. B. B. O'Connor has been elected Chairman of Committees of the Xew South • Wales Legislative Council.—Press Association. Mr. C K. Dix, of the legal firm of O'Htgan and Dix, of Wellington, is in a critical state of health in Sydney. A little time ago he went to Sydnov for advice for an internal complaint, anil was operated upon soon after his arrival there. The disease is apparently too deeply seated, and the patient has been sinking for tho past few days. Mrs. Sidney Dix, who lias been in attendance on the sufferer, cabled her husband yesterday -.—"Critical —faintest possible hope."
