HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of tlio Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr. K. P. Bunny), and Councillors Roots, Clendon, Hawthorne, Kempthorne, Knight, Ball, Ilobbs, and Hodgins. Mr. F. W. London wrote agreeing to pay the cost of putting in i\ sump to connect with Everest Creole.—Received. In furl her reference to inquiries as to a dog, Mr. W. J. Gray stated that lie could produce witnesses who would assert that tlio council was liable for tlio accident to the animal.—Resolved to inform Mr. Gray that tlio council would not accept any liability in the mnltor. Mr. W. S. Short advised that lie had been appointed, in terms of tlio Hutt Railway and Improvement Act, 1003, and tlio Amendment of 1911, to inquire into tlio cost of forming tlio Hutt Road, and tlio proportions of cost to bo borne by the local bodies concerned. Mr Slserrelt is to be asked to represent tho council. Tlio Hutt, Park Committee forwarded a copy of their audited balance-sheet. Thin showed receipts amounting to .£2SG 3s. fid,, and expenditure X27!> its. 7d.—Received. The municipality of Scoltwlalo acknowledged the receipt "of information furnished in regard to tho sewerage scheme. In. further reforeuco to tlio insufficient water pressure at.the recent firo in Waterloo Road, tho Hutt Firo Brigade pointed out the necessity of pumping direct into tho mains when firo occurs.— Received. Oil the motion of the Mayor, it wns resolved that a- special order be authorised, to transfer tlio unexpended portions of loans. In regard to the Motor-ear By-law, an opinion was received from Mr. T. F. Martin, and, after Some discussion, the matter was referred back to tlio By-laws: Committee, to act in conjunction with tho Mayor J, Tho engineer roporP.l that tho estimated cost of preparing tar and sand lor last year was ,C 17*1- )(is. (Id. Rapid progress on Section 5 of ttio Eastern, araiyago had been found impracticable, owing jo tho weather. Everything was in readiness for tho reception of the Wesley Memorial Tablet at tho old cemetery, near tho bridge. Very little damage had been caused by the recent storm, only a lew slips having oequrrcd on I lie surrounding hills. Six hui/dml permits had been issued under tliPdrainngo and sanitary bylaws.—Adopted.
