On Monday morning Percy Eichstaedt, aged eighteen, mid Thomas William Deam, a few years his senior, at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. J, Black, J.P., were both charged, with breaking anil entering at Waitara and at Stratkmoro. Both were remanded. Word was received last week that two "suspects" had gone through to Whanga- | momona. Constable Scannell was away in I tho back country, and Sergeant M'Neoly instructed Constable Liston at To Worn, to procecd at. once to Whangamomoiia— Ino light task with the roads in their ! present arrest the men. When Constable Liston reached Whangamomoiia ho found t'hat the men had put their horses up at the' stables, and were in the township. Meanwhile Constable Scannell had returned, but tho presence of two constables in Wliangamomona had excited attention, and tho men made off. Constable Liston is a noted runner, but Constable Seannol was handicapped by log. gings.. Tho To Wern constable overhauled Eichstaedt after a short run of a mile odd over the railway formation, grabbed him, and waited for his fellow constablo to come up ,-ind secure him, while he made off after the other man. Deam made n big effort to get away, but Liston eventually secured him just in time to prevent him from getting away into the lms-h. Both men had on their persons revolvers loaded in every chamber.
