THE SHIPPING OF BULLOCKS. The foTbrightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held at Mr. Avery's rooms yesterdaj*. Tho following donations were received:— Messrs. J. Hislop and S.Brown, 10s. Gd. <-.ach; Hon. G. Fowlds, 10s.; Dr. Marchant and Messrs. W. Pryor, W. H. Morrnh, and S. T. Silver, ss. each; Messrs. L. P. Davics, S. Iladford, and "Friend," 2s. Gd. each: total, .£2 ISs. Gd. Tho Ins]>ector (Mr. Seed) commented in the course of his report upon the method employed in shipping bullocks ill Wellington. It was stated that a rope, covered with leather, is used, and not a wide sling, as should he tho case. The society considered that it was their duty to move in the matter, and il was decided that, as a first step, that the inspector call on Mr. Fletcher, of-the Harbour Board, and ask him if ho could do anything towards changing the practice. In the event of mi unfavourable reply the socicty would take tho matter up.
