Tho Mastcrton Trust Lands Trustees have been recommended by a sub-commit-tea to'take the initiative in having the Maslerton District High School disestablished, with a view to tho establishment of a high school proper. This is an increase of 41,288 sheep, 32,089 lambs,'and M cattle compared with tho previous year. Tho report states that the labour unrest in Great Britain and the Dominion during the year had caused considerable anxiety, but happily resulted in no serious loss. During tlie year the efficiency of the plant was increased by the installation of an extra boiler, a duplicate electrical generating set, and another wool-drying machine. In view of future extensions, and to eliminate tho risk of loss through breakdowns of machinery, a second refrigerating machine has been ordered, and will bo installed during the coining season. The directors have approved plans tor tlie enlargement of tlie freezing and storage chambers, and tenders will shortly bo called for this work. During tho year, Messrs. Clephane, Franklin, and Hodgins resided from the board, and Messrs. Hugh Morrison mid Walter Cameron wero appointed to fill two of tho, vacancies. Tho Masterton Chess Club will play a telegraphic match with the Hamilton Club on Saturday evening next, the local team will be: Messrs. Sedcole, loule, C. Winchester, G. A. Jones, N. Moore, and F. H. Kummcr. Mr. F. Kelling will probably bring n team of Wellington players to meet the Masterton Club at an early •Vt' a meeting of directors of the Wairnrapa Caledonian Society on Saturday last, it was decided to set, up a committee to inquire as to the advisability of holding a championship meeting in piping and dancing during show week. Twenty-three new members were elected to the. society on Saturday. The Wairarapa and Nelson Rugby football representatives will pliy a mnfch at Carterton on Auciist 15. Tho Wellington Union is asking that a match fc" arranwd for August 31. Tlie Tarnnaki 'Union has offered to include the Wairarapa in the tour of its representative team. Most of tliA slips which were brought down in the Masterton County by the ro cent floods have been cleared away.
