HOCKEY.
THE CASE OF MORPETH. The Management Committee of the Wellington Hockey Association met last night. Mr. C. W. Cathie presided. Regarding the matter in which W. G. Morpeth, of the Wellington Club, had been ordered off the field iu the Welling-ton-Government Insurance match on July 6 by Referee C. JI. Cockrell, Morneth and Mr. Cockrell both appeared before tho association. The referee said that he had sent Morpeth off the field for what he had at the time considered to bo rough play in Morpeth charging an opponent-. Upon reflection, however, he considered that it would have been sufficient had he cautioned Morpeth. -The association passed the following resolution: "In view of tho explanations of tho refereo and Morpeth, and in view of the fact that the referee now considers that a warning would have boon sufficient, rhis committee considers that Morpeth has already been sufficiently punished by being ordered off the field, and also that the referee should be thanked for his report of tho occurrence." St. Mark's third-class team protested against Victoria College third-claims team being awarded a win in tho fixture fulfilled by the two teams, on the ground that tho College team had inclnded four juniors. The allegation was admitted by College, and the Association decided to award the "match to St. Mark's.
