A Nautical Silver Wedding Celebration. The silver wedding of Signor and Madame Squarise was celebrated on board the j.omoward bound K.M.S. Hcmuera on June 5, when in latitude 10.30, longitude 22.58, on the liigh seas. The function took the form of a presentation, followed by a concert. Mr. J. Lambie (Ashburton), in presenting Signor Squarise with a case of pipes oil behalf of the passengers, referred to the high esteem and genial good humour of signor, and wished the happy couple long life and prosperity. Mrs. J. Itobertson (Auckland) endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker, and presented Madame Squarish with- a handsome Spanish lace shawl as a memento of the occasion. Mr. John A. Brown (Dunedin) referred to the high esteem in which Sißnor and Madams Squarise are held in that city, and'to Signor Squarisc's connection with the Dunedin •■philharmonic Society. Complimentary references were also made by Mr. J. Boss (Auckland), Mr. W. Armstrong (Whangsirei), the Rev. C. Price (W anganui), and Mr. T. Wellwuod (Napier), feignor and Madame Squarise feelingly replied. "Whilst the concert was iu progress a large wedding cake, the gilt of the passengers, was cut and distributed by Madame Sqiiarise. College Dance, The prefects and boarders of Wellington Colkgo held ;i most enjoyable dance on Friday evening in the large hall oi their new building. About 180 pcoplr wero present and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The floor was perfect and the music supplied by Mr. D. Kenny s orchestra was alt that could be desired. 'The supper room and ball room were tastefully decorated with' palms, and the College colours also were in great ovidence. Mrs. Eenner was hostess and the. success of the evening is greatly due to her and Mr. Kenner's untiring efforts. Among the ladies present were: Mrs, Eenner, in black velvet and point lace Miss Ward, black satin with tunic ol black net; Mrs. Morpeth, maize satin and overdress of cha.nti.lly lace; Mrs. Gifford, black velvet and Vienna lace; tlu MisKS Shirtcliffe. (3), Russell, Joplin, Still (2), Kircher, King (2), Cooke, Garland, Myers (2), Bulkley, Fletcher, Krrker, Morpeth (2), Balcombe-Srowu, Frceth, Cox Ward, Grange, Bristowe, M'Lollan Messrs. Eenner, Gifford, Smithson, Cross llussell, St-ainton, Childs. At the conclusion cheers were given foi Mr. and Mrs. Eenner, the visitors, ant for the committee who managed the affaii so successfully. It comprised Messrs. Jop lin, Johnson, Stainton, and Smith.
Napier Hospital Ball. Tho annual ball in connection with, the Napier Hospital was held in tlio' Gniriio'n Hall, Napier, on Friday evening; and was one of tho most successful that have yet biai hold in regard to that particular object—tho raising of funds for the benefit of .the hospital. The .ballroom had been beautifully.decorated, with palms, japonica, flags, ami variouslycoloured draperies, and it presented a brilliantly-coloured appearance. Nearly all tho lights were covered with red silk shades, and each owner of tho hall was arranged as a. comfortable lounge. The bandstand, always something of a problem was turned into a pagoda, one of the happiest ideas ■ that could have been suggested. The decorations of (.he sapper tabJe3 were also' largely of japonica and with . red-shaded iighls. There were probably more than six hundred peoplo dancing, and many of them wore' in fancy dress. Fancy dress sets had been arranged, and these groups of colour added much to the attractiveness of the largti assembly of dancers. There were sets of nurses, Scarlet. Troubadours, Na.va.ls, Pierrots, French Maids, Quakers, and Romanies, and tho winners of theso costume sets proved to the .Scarlet Troubadours; 2, the Pierrots; and I), the Romanics.

Jits Dalgety left by the Maori on Friday evening for Christchurck. Captain Gilbert Hamilton and Mrs. Hamilton left for Sydney on Friday. Mts. Mason has returned to the Hutt fiom her visit to Napier. Mr. and Mrs. W. Ewe Kenny,. who have been visiting Mrs J. H. Williams, Havelock North, have left on their return to tho Malay Federated States.

A Farewell Tea. Mrs. Brown wore a black silk dress, Miss lirown was in a pretty blue frock, and Miss M. Brown wore'cream. -Mrs. Haslam was iii a black costume and black hat. W.CT.U. There was a large attendance at tho usual monthly meeting, which was held in Hie, Y.M.O.A. rooms on Friday afternoon. Several members from other unions were present, anion; them being: Mrs. Talk, of Taranaki, who save a most interesting address. Sister Mildred, who has spent some years among the Maoris, also gave an interesting account ol Maori life. -Miss Mueller sang two solos, "Poi Song" and "Maori Maiden. MRS.
