FEATHERSTON ITEMS.
An inquest was held here nn Saturday afternoon concerning the death by drowning of Frank Fletcher at Kahutara on Wednesday last. Several fellow-employ-ees of tho deceased (who was head ploughman on Mr. C. Elgar's ■station) gave evidence, ajid also Ruben Flu-toy, who found the body. It seems that deceased was helping in an endeavour to rescue some horses which had become isolated during tho flood, ond was washed from his horse whilst, crossing the Wlinhawiriwiri crock. Tho District Coroner (Mr. J. T. M. Hornsby) commented in terms of approval on tho conduct of William Smith, who had mado every effort to rone'lii tho deceased when tho latter was struggling in the water. The funeral took place yesterday at Martinborongh. The inter-club debate between the Feothorstou and Carterton Literary and Debating Societies, which has Leon twice postponed, is to take place on Wednesday ni-zlit. The average -attendance at the public school during the past: month has been M") out of a. roll number of Ifil. The average for the quarter was 111.
