CITY COUNCIL BALL.

That the staff of the Wellington City Council is composed of very wise people is demonstrated by tho fact that they hold their annual ball on the niglut following tho Racing Club's annual fixture, nnd arc enabled to use Hie samo decorations. With most dances tho regretable part about them is that so much trouble and forethought is put to bo brief a u?e, but in the caso of the race ball their life is prolonged for a few more nights and days. A great many people wore present in the Town Hall last evening;, nnd, as oh the previous evening, tho placo presented a very brilliant appearance. Tho only alteration to bo seen was tho erection over tlio entrance of tho City Council's "Supreinn a situ," done in coloured electric lights. Supper was served in (ho Concert Chamber, little chnngo being observable in its appearance save that tho sporting emblems which decorated the table for tho other event were missing, and tho flowers used ivero white narcissi. Supper was supplied by Sir. James Godber. Among those present were: Tlie Mayor, Mr. M'Laren, and lire. M'Laren, "tho latter wearing black satin with jet trimming; Mrs. Cohen, in black fatin, with a pointed tunic of very handsomely-em-broidered net worked in silver thread; Sirs. Shi ; r(clilTe, iji black satin,, with touches of white; .Mrs. F. 11. U. Fisher, Mick sntin, villi berlhn of white lace; Mrs. O'Shea, pink cluvrmeuse, with a tunic of chrystal embroidered not; Mrs. C'ano, heliotrope satin, with overdress of green niiion; Sirs. J. P. Luko, black satin, relieved with white; Mrs. Morton, pink satin, with overdress of geraniumcoloured ninon and silver embroideries; Mrs. Fletcher, black satin, with jet trimming; Mrs. J. Fuller, floral silk, with an overdress of violel niiion; Mrs. Ames, black velvet, with tmiic of steel embroidered net; Jfrs, M'Kenzie, blue satin, veiled with blue ninon and crystal embroideries; Mrs. Sexton, black satin and handsome embossed embroidery; Mrs. Taylor, pink satin, with a pink floral overdress; Miss Levy, a debutante of the Racing Club ball, whs in white eharmensc, with silver trimming; Miss Winder, pale blue frock; Miss Sexton, black charmouso and jet trimming; Miss Lennox, geranium-coloured frock of satin, with panels of a deeper shade; Miss Moore, pale pink ni.non; Miss: 13. Lnko, pale heliotrope rope satin, trimmed with whilo lace; Miss Woodroofe, palo blue witin; Miss Kitty Heading, pale blue eharmeuse. Councillors were also in evidenco at tho ball.
