MASTERTON NOTES.
(By Telegraph.—Special CorrospondenU Mastcrton, July 19. A. clay bird championship of New Zenlaud was tired here to-day in rough weather. E. K. King, of Waihi, proved lo bo the winner, securing 20 birds out of 21. C. A. Fcnwiek, of Featherston, wns second with 19 birds, and It. Buick (Mosterron), N. Jensen (Carterton), and C. P. Sidey (Pahiatua) tied for third place with 18. ■■ At a meeting of tho Masterton Chamber of Commerce to-day, a. resolution was passed expressing sympathy with the proposal of the Greymouth Chambci that legislation should bo introduced to put a etop to strikes and lockouts. The chamber also niade arrangements for a mooting of delegates to be held here on July 31 to form a -united league to further the construction of a railway along the «u>t coast to Waipuluvrail. I/cttera wore read from several parts, expressing sympathy with the project.
