Dealing with conditions. of employment during June, the .Journal' of tie Department of Labour remarks, in regard to -Wellington, that, slalightering is nowslack, tho season-having ended. A fair amount of preserving was done- during the ■ 'month...-. Tanning,-currying, nnd fellmongering continued busy, but enough labour; is offering. • According to Napier rtiports, there were no applications lor forming and dairy workers, the supply of labour-apparently in excess of .the demand.' A similar- position existed at -Hastings, Vme'at-freezing", etc'., .being dull. Jii' -New Plymouth, .tanning, fellmongering; and currying continued very good. A fair aniount of. beef was slaughtered and frozen during the month, but there was ' elill a good deal of preserving to.be done. A good;deal of ploughing was done dur- . ing the month, but butter i. and cheese manufacturing was at a very low ebb. Wangariui advices state that freezing, tanning, etc., has cased off, and there hasbeen the reduction of hands usual at this rime'of' the year. ■■ The local freezing works- were operating with considerably reduced'.staffs, those , employed only working short hours. -• Farming, dairying, etc., ' has been slack,' but ploughmen have been ill.!'dementi:-' 'The slackness usual in freezing, and dairying tit this, time of the year-is reported from Palmerston. Otaki, and Jlasterton. In the-latter district a (considerable amount of' ploughing has boon done, and has afforded a fair Tun of employment, for,.' agricultural workers.
