TRAGIC DEATH.
A MAN CHARGED BY A BOAE. (Br TclecraDh.—l'roee Association.l Auckland, July 18. News has been received by his relatives in Auckland of the tragic death of ill". Allan Smith, near 'J'iaralgen, Victoria. While feeding pigs on Ms farm a boar broko loose iroiii its pen, and charged Sir. Smith, knocking him down, 'rim animal attacked him fiercely, and drove its tusks into his , thigh, inilicting torrible injuries. The unfortunate mutt struggled desperately to free himself, and mauuged to regain Jiis feet. He ran as fast us his wounds would permit to the house, Hie boar charging alter him. Ili= cries for assistance were heard by his wife, and she seized a gun, and killed the animal) which liml chased her husband right to the gato. llverythmg possible was done ior tho injured man, but an artery had been, severed, and despite all attempts to stop bleeding by means of ligatures, ho died wilhin a few hours. Sir. Smith was only 39 years of age: Ho had sent a letter to say (hat he would nt the end of the present month visit his mother, Mre. G. Smith, who resides in Salisbury Street, Richmond. Deceased was a brother to Messrs. W, D. Smith, Mrs. Herring, nnd Mr. Hotham of Grey tyiin, aud Mi's, G, Walker, of Kiugs.wA*
