ENGINE DRIVERS' AWARD.
' (By Teleeraph.—Prose Association.) ' Dunedin, .July 19. Mr. J. E. Triggs, Conciliation Commissioner, has been engaged during the last few days in considering > the enginedrivers' dispute. The following agreement has been arrived at:—A week's work shall not exceed 48 hours, exclusive of time occupied in getting up steam; each employer shall, subject to the provisions of the Factories Act, 1908, be entitled to arrange hoars of work accord-, ing to the-exigencies of , -business, and l such hirnirs may be worked in tho shop either by day or night; overtime ftt the rate of time and a quarter for the first three hours and time and a half for all further time until the usual, hour for commencing work. The following ehall bo the .rates of wages:—Engine-driver, with' a first-class certificate as stationary engine-driver, 10.?. per day; with secondclass certificate, 35.; engine-drivers whoso work necessitates them getting up steam in the morning and banking fires at night, ss. per week in addition. Tho following shall be the conditions and minimum rate of wages for drivers of locomotive, traction, and winding engines :— 48 hours per week, exclusive of time occupied in getting up steam. Wages shall be not less than 10s. per day, which is to cover all time necessarily occupied in getting up steam, Work done on New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Labour Day, and King's Birthday shall be paid for at the rate of time and a half. Work done on Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Sundays shall be paid for at the rate cf double time._ Special "provisions have been made in regard to freezing works and hospital and charitablo aid boards. .The award has been made for three years. . -
