TRAMWAY ACCIDENT.
ON THE KELBURNE LINE. Tho tail-ropo on an up-bound car on tho Kelburne-Karori Tramway Company's line broke at 5.20 last evening, causing a cessation in the running of tho cars for tho evening. The rope—a stout wire and Manila cablo—broko about 200 yards from the ear, at a point near tho Talavera. Terrace stopping-place, and almost immediately both cars were pulled up, no one being the worse for the misadventure. Mr. J. Darling;, engineer of tho company, states that he could have bad the cars running again by 8 p.m. by splicing the old tail-ropo (which connects the two cars on the counter-weight system), but doomed it advisable to put down a new tail-rope altogether. Ho states thnt the cars will be running again by 7 o'clock this morning. Tho stoppage of the cars Boryed to emphasise tho usefulness of tho hill-side lino. Numbers of people , , who had been, in town, arrived at tho city station in. Kolburne Avenue to find tho service Busponded, and had to walk through the tunnels to Kelburno and the intervening' stations at somo personal invquvenience, which involved no little physical effort, the incline being very sharp throughout.
